धमनी NOUN
- शरीर के भीतर की वह छोटी या बड़ी नली जिसमें रक्त आदि का संचार होता रहता है । विशेष—सुश्रुत के अनुसार धमनियाँ २४ हैं और नाभि से निकलकर १० ऊपर की ओर गई हैं, १० नीचे की और तथा चार बगल की ओर । ऊपर जानेवाली धमनियों द्वारा शब्द, स्पर्श, रूप, रस, गंध, प्रश्वास, जँभाई, छींक, हँसना, रोना, बोलना इत्यादि व्यापार होते हैं । ये ऊर्ध्वगामिनी धमनियाँ हृदय में पहुँचकर तीन तीन शाखाओँ में विभक्त होकर ३० हो जाती हैं । इनसें से २ वातवहा, २ पित्तवहा, २ कफवहा, २ रक्तवहा और २ रसवहा, दस तो ये हैं । इनके अतिरिक्त ८ शब्द, रूप, रस और गंध को वहन करनेवाली है । फिर २ से मनुष्य बोलता है, २ से घोष करता है, २ से सोता है, २ से जागता है, २ धमनियाँ अश्रुवाहिनी हैं और २ स्त्रियों के स्तनों में दूध या पुरुषों के शरीर में शुक्र प्रवर्तित करनेवाली हैं । यह तो हुई ऊर्ध्वगामिनी धमनियों की बात । अब इसी प्रकार अधोगामिनी धमनियाँ वात, मूत्र, पुरीष, वीर्य, आर्तव इनको नीचे की ओर ले जाती हैं । ये धमनियाँ पहले पित्ताशय में जाकर खाए पीए हुए रस को उष्णता से शुद्ध करके उसे ऊर्ध्वगामिनी और तियँग्गामिनी धमनियों तथा सारे शरीर में पहुँचाती हैं । ये १० अधोगामिनी धमनियों भी आमाशय और पक्वाशय के बीच में पहूँचकर तीन तीन भागों में विभक्त होकर ३० हो जाती हैं । इनमें से दो दो धमनियाँ वायु, पित्त, कफ, रक्त और रस की वहन करने के लिये हैं । आँतों से लगी हुई २. अन्नवाहिनी हैं, २ जलवाहिनी है और २ मूत्रवाहिनी । मूत्रवस्ति से लगी हुई २ धमनियाँ शुक उत्पन्न करनेवाली और २ प्रवर्तित करने या निकालनेवाली हैं । मोटी आँत सें लगी हुई २ मल को निका- लेती हैं । बाकी ८ धमानियाँ तिरछी जानेवाली धमनियों कौ पसीना देतो हैं । ४ तिर्यग्गामिनी धमनियाँ हैं । उनकी सहस्त्रों लाखों शाखाएँ होकर आरीर के भीतर जाल की तरह फैली हुई हैं ।

Description
धमनियां वे रक्त वाहिकाएं होती हैं, जो हृदय से रक्त को आगे पहुंचाती हैं। पल्मोनरी एवं आवलनाल धमनियों के अलावा सभी धमनियां ऑक्सीजन-युक्त रक्त लेजाती हैं।
