ಟಿಪ್ಪಣಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಒಂದು ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಅಥವಾ ದಸ್ತಾವೇಜಿನ ಪುಟದ ಕೆಳಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಥವಾ ಒಂದು ಅಧ್ಯಾಯ, ಸಂಪುಟ ಅಥವಾ ಇಡೀ ಪಠ್ಯದ ಅಂತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಇರಿಸಲಾದ ಪಠ್ಯದ ಸಾಲು(ಗಳು). ಟಿಪ್ಪಣಿಯು ಮುಖ್ಯ ಪಠ್ಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಲೇಖಕನ ಹೇಳಿಕೆಗಳು ಅಥವಾ ಪಠ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಆಧಾರನೀಡುವ ಸಂದರ್ಭ ಕೃತಿಯ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡಬಲ್ಲದು.

In publishing, a note is a brief text wherein the author comments upon the subject and themes of the book and names the supporting citations. In the editorial production of books and documents, typographically, a note usually is several lines of text at the bottom of the page, at the end of a chapter, at the end of a volume, or can be a house-style typographic usage throughout the text; notes usually are identified with superscript numbers or a symbol.
