ಸ್ವಚ್ಛತೆ (ನೈರ್ಮಲ್ಯ) ಶಬ್ದವು ರೋಗಾಣುಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಕೊಳೆಯಿಂದ ಸ್ವಚ್ಛ ಹಾಗೂ ಮುಕ್ತವಾಗಿರುವ ಅಮೂರ್ತ ಸ್ಥಿತಿ, ಮತ್ತು ಆ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಸಾಧಿಸುವ ಹಾಗೂ ಕಾಪಾಡುವ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸ ಎರಡನ್ನೂ ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಸ್ವಚ್ಛಗೊಳಿಸುವಿಕೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಹಲವುವೇಳೆ ಸ್ವಚ್ಛತೆಯನ್ನು ಸಾಧಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಸ್ವಚ್ಛತೆಯು ಒಂದು ಒಳ್ಳೆ ಗುಣವಾಗಿದೆ, ಮುಂದಿನ ಸೂಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಇದು ಸೂಚಿತವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ: "ಸ್ವಚ್ಛತೆಯು ದೈವಭಕ್ತಿಗಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನದು", ಮತ್ತು ಇದು ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯದಂತಹ ಇತರ ಆದರ್ಶಗಳಿಗೆ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಬಹುದು.

Cleanliness is both the state of being clean and free from germs, dirt, trash, or waste, and the habit of achieving and maintaining that state. Cleanliness is often achieved through cleaning. Culturally, cleanliness is usually a good quality, as indicated by the aphorism: "Cleanliness is next to Godliness", and may be regarded as contributing to other ideals such as health and beauty.
