ஓசையுடன் தூக்கிப் பாடப்படுவது பாட்டு (song) இஃது ஒலிநயத்துடன், சொற் கோர்வைகளாக, இசை, உணர்ச்சி, கற்பனை முதலானவை வெளிப்படும் வகையில் கருத்தின் வெளிப்பாடாக வரும். பத்துப்பாட்டுத் தொகுப்பில் உள்ள நீண்ட செய்யுள்களைப் பாட்டு எனவும்எட்டுத்தொகை நூலில் உள்ள செய்யுள்களைப் பாடல் எனவும் வழங்கும் மரபு தொன்றுதொட்டு இருந்துவருகிறது.
