કળશ વરુણ પૂજાનું પ્રતીક છે. ચારેબાજુએથી સોનાના લેપથી જેનો તામ્રવર્ણ ઢંકાઈ ગયો છે, તે કળશ છે. કળશ ભારતીય ઉપખંડની પૌરાણિક હિંદુ સંસ્કૃતિનું અગ્રગણ્ય પ્રતીક છે. એટલા માટે તો મહત્વના બધા શુભપ્રસંગોમાં પુણ્ય કળશની ઉપસ્થિતમાં એના સાનિઘ્યમાં થાય છે. દરેક શુભપ્રસંગ અને કાર્યની શરૂઆતમાં જે રીતે વિધ્નહર્તા ગણપતિની પૂજા કરવામાં આવે છે. એ જ પ્રકારે કળશની પણ પૂજા થાય છે.

A kalasha, also called Pūrṇa-Kalaśa, Pūrṇa-Kumbha, Pūrṇa-Ghaṭa, also called ghat or ghot or kumbh, is a metal pot with a large base and small mouth. It is employed in the rituals in Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist traditions as a ceremonial offering to the deity or to an honoured guest and as an auspicious symbol used to decorate shrines and buildings.
