शंकराचार्य के अनुसार अज्ञान का अर्थ ज्ञान का अभाव नहीं है, लेकिन असंदिग्ध अस्तित्व हैं जो उच्चतम अनन्यता को प्राप्त होता है तथा जिसकी उपलब्धि द्वैत के ज्ञान के बिना सम्भव नहीं और द्वैत की अनूभूति अज्ञान बिना नहीं हो सकती।
According to Shankara, ignorance ajnana is not the absence of knowledge, but a positive entity finally culminating into realization of supreme one-ness, which is not possible without duality dvaitd, which again, is not possible without ignorance.
वह जगत, जीव और भोग को मोक्ष प्राप्ति का माध्यम स्वीकार करने के बाद चर्चा को आगे बढ़ाते हुए प्रत्येक मान्यता को नकारते जाते हैं और अंत में अनन्यता की स्थिति प्राप्ति को परम सत्य की उपलब्धि मानते हैं।
He assumes the existence of the world jagat, the beings jiva, the objects of pleasure bhoga, the means to achieve moksha liberation etc., and as he proceeds, goes on disproving each assumption, finally establishing realization of one-ness as the ultimate truth.
